A node represents an instance of the blockchain network that participates in the Network and maintains a copy of the distributed ledger. It can be a peer node, endorsing node, orderer node, or a combination of these roles. Nodes execute smart contracts, validate transactions, and store the ledger, contributing to the decentralized and fault-tolerant nature of the network.
